Sabya Sachi Ghosh: Artist, Biker, Consummate Gentleman By Sankar Karmakar

Sabya Sachi Ghosh is a self-taught artist. He is neither orthodox nor unconventional. No one guides him thus he guides himself and there lies his advantage. He is extremely carefree and spontaneous with his various styles and expression, building his own realm of creation, where he reigns supreme.

In the recent past he developed a keenness for travelling beyond India’s boundaries and metaphorically speaking, also on vast canvases using either oil or mixed media as his preferred mode of expressions. He generously indulges his majestic attitude of whims and caprice on room size surfaces. His range is vast from doing portraits of people to surreal depiction of ideas to hyperrealism to abstract expressionism and sketching of Indian, Egyptian, Roman and Nabatean historical structures. He also is a sculptor; metal fabrication was his first job at the age of 22.

He effortlessly manages to capture precious moments of joy, suffering, failure, success, fret and fever of day to day life in his realistic paintings. In this phase of his work there is very little that can be describe as accidental. He is meticulous and alert, acute and rock-solid in his depiction. His strokes are confident but often too tiny and yet they do not lead to obscurity.

His work is shaped around a series of intense contrast of cold and warmth, of darkness and light, of hardness  and softness, of stillness and noise, of solitude and crowd, of static and dynamic, of time arrested and timelessness and above all, love and passion. His works, I believe deserves acclaim.

About The Artist

Sabya Sachi Ghosh lives in India. When not painting he is out exploring the backroads in his beautiful country on his faithful Royal Enfield. A consummate gentleman, I have had the pleasure of knowing him for several years now and look forward to riding with him one day.
